After the completion of disastrous 2020 the year 2021 looks no better with incidents happening within less than 10 days of celebrating New Year. Sriwijaya Air Flight 182 which is a Boeing 737-500m series aircraft lost contact with Indonesia‘s aviation authorities minutes after taking off from Jakarta, capital of Indonesia. Before disappearing from the radar the said plane dropped from almost 11,000 feet to 250 feet within five minutes. The plane’s last contact was at 2;40 p.m., according to Adita Irawati, a spokesperson for the transport ministry.

The plane was en route to Pontianak, West Kalimantan province. As per statement issued by Sriwijaya Air, it is still gathering more detailed information regarding the flight before it can make any statements. Indonesian authorities said they have sent a search vessel from Jakarta to the Plane’s last known location in the Java Sea.

The 26 year old 737-500 aircraft is much older model than 737 Max that was grounded for 20 months in 2019 after two fatal crashes, including a Lion Air disaster that killed 189 people in 2018.
